For our first post back after a long hiatus I present a Quintessential Flavor: Chocolate Mint. This was inspired by an herb that I grew in my plant box this Summer and presented as a treat for what would have been my father’s 100th birthday.
Mint is rather universal across cultures and pairing it with chocolate can not be strictly called German though the peppermint family of plants was cultivated in Central Europe and the Middle East.
The recipe is rather simple, I used a brownie mix and added one extra egg to make the batter smoother and a bit fluffier.
The frosting recipe is the standard buttercream. It is flavored with Monin’s Frosted Mint syrup. It’s nice and smooth and not harsh like many peppermint extracts are.
